Start Up Mum is a proud supporter of the work of Kiva, a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.
Since we started our Kiva team, we have already contributed funding to a number of women in business. Today, we added Jennifer Vanessa to our list. Jennifer is a single mother with a three-year-old daughter from Managua, Nicaragua in North America. She earns a living making food and soups on the weekends, and she also offers a new service, selling smoothies made of natural fruits. She has the support of her aunt, who helps her in the business and cares for her daughter, after Jennifer’s mother passed away three years ago. Jennifer, with the spirit to get ahead, is applying for the loan to buy products to increase the number of plates of food she prepares. With this investment, her goal is to increase her sales, which will allow her to generate more income from her sales, helping her to obtain a better quality of life with her family.
Help us to continue to support women just like Jennifer by joining our Kiva team with as little as a $25 donation.
